Not only carnival. Venice is the only city in the world where masks have become an everyday object. Before, during and after carnival, life in Venice is "incognito". Enormous treasures of historic episodes, anecdotes, rites and knowledge are connected to the masks. The most ancient document on the use of masks in Venice is dated 1268 and says that people who had masks were not allowed to take part in the „egg throwing" ceremony and that men were not allowed to camouflage themselves as women in order to visit nuns in the convent! Obviously we don't want your guests to throw eggs or secretly visit nuns, we're going to reveal the secrets of creating masks instead, creativity without limits. |
